Last night we awoke to the sound of our little dog in pain. 4 in the morning. Not good. His iris (the colored part of the eye) had ruptured (although of course we did not know that at the time). Pete ended up bringing him into the local emergency vet, and we now have a dog with one eye. He also has a head tilt from a burst eardrum due to an infection -- the eardrum should grow back, and with it... correct the head tilt. But, of course... he will remain a one-eyed pug.
Pete says, we now have a pirate dog, who should bark like, "Aaaarrrrf".
I say, not funny.
But, I would chuckle if this weren't true of my dog today.

XOXOXO to Hondo. I hope he is feeling better poor little pup. Love Mindy
Poor little dog. How did it happen?
@ Annu -- We went to Luddington on Saturday and he must have gotten some sand in his eye or something that scratched his eye. We noticed that he looked like he had pink eye on Sunday, but he looked better Monday -- so we chose not to take him to the vet, unfortunately... this then happened Monday/Tuesday night. He has had eye scratches before, and they have gone away on their own. But this one must have got infected, and ate through the cornea quickly... and so now he has no eye.
@ Mindy -- He is starting to feel better, following me around and looking for treats. Still feel bad for the little guy when he runs into things though! :(
My pug's eye bulged out of the socket a week ago, the vet got it back and and stitched it up, I had to go for the follow up appointment today and they took the stitches out and found out that he's not going to be able to keep his eye. He has surgery in the morning to remove it. I feel so bad for him. Is your pug starting to get around better? My pug has been running in to stuff too...
I am sorry to hear about your pug's experience. My pug, Hondo, is recovering well. He gets the stitches out next week, but otherwise seems almost back to normal -- 1 week after surgery. Although he was bumping into things and having trouble navigating height differentials (stairs, going onto the couch, etc.) to begin with -- he has become much better, and seems to be learning that he has to turn his head more. It is obvious at times though that he does not have vision in his left eye. His eye started to look normal yesterday -- it is no longer red/swollen. Be forewarned... your little pug may not want to eat crunchy food for the first week or so after his surgery (mine certainly did not). I think the hardest part of this all has been trying to get all the meds in -- finally figured out that he will take them wrapped in frozen yougert, prior to a meal! Thinking of you today and hope that your pugs surgery goes well! Heidi
